PoorBest

FileZilla is an open source FTP client application. It offers a user friendly interface that allows even inexperienced users to easily browse the remote server's file system and quickly perform all the common file manipulation operations.

The main program window is divided in two parts. Local hard drive (or local network) contents are presented on the left, while the right part contains a similar view of the remote server's contents. Directories and files on both the local and remote file systems can be browsed using a graphic interface similar to the TreeView used by Windows Explorer.

Files can be transferred with simple drag and drop operations: click a file (or a directory or a group of files or directories) and drag it from the left to the right window (upload) or viceversa (download).

Other file manipulation operations such as creating, deleting, renaming a file or a directory, viewing or editing a file can be performed with contextual menus accessible with a click of the right button of the mouse.

All the informations (server url and port, connection type, user name and password) needed to connect to frequently used FTP servers can be saved to FileZilla Site Manager. Then establishing a connection it will be simply a matter of selecting the server name from a drop down list located on the top toolbar.

FileZilla can be easily configurated to work with any firewall, it supports connections through SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 proxies and connections to SFTP (secure FTP) servers with SSH1 or SSH2 protocol.

FileZilla is distributed under a GNU/GPL license. Source code and executable files are available for MS Windows operating system.

A great open source ftp
FileZilla is fast, reliable and very easy to use even for a newbie like me. I use this ftp client to upload html pages to my web server and for downloading software from ftp servers and I've never encountered a single problem.

As I've said I'm not an expert so I've no idea if some obscure feature I would never have the chance to utilize anyway may be missing, but what I know is that FileZilla does all I need and does it well. It's also free so I've really nothing more to ask.

This site encourages us to voice our opinion and this is mine: FileZilla is a fantastic open source ftp client.
